My fish room has gone through several changes over the last few years. I originally planned on having just these two tanks built into the basement junk room wall. I tried my hand at making some DIY background. Styrofoam, quickcrete, and drylock are used to make faux rocks .
A few aquariums have escaped the fish room!
Pictures of the main fish room. The room is approximately 12' x 13'. A dehumidifier heats the room to 80 degrees. There are no individual heaters in any of the tanks. Two linear piston pumps are used to run sponges for filtration. The room has a center drain for water changes. A 1.5" pvc pipe surrounds the room and is tied into the center drain to eliminate the use of buckets. Water is plumbed overhead to each tank to make refilling easier. Water is aged in eight plastic 55 gallon drums in a separate room. The water in the barrels is heated, treated, and aged for 48 hours before using. A water pump is used to push the water up and overhead into the fish room when needed.
